Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, particularly those who haven't achieved adequate glycemic control with metformin alone.
May be used as initial combination therapy in certain patients.
Can be used as an addon therapy to other diabetes medications if needed.
Sitagliptin works by inhibiting dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4), an enzyme that breaks down incretins. Incretins stimulate insulin release and suppress glucagon secretion. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production, enhances insulin sensitivity, and improves glucose uptake by peripheral tissues. The combination provides a synergistic effect on blood glucose control.
Store at room temperature (20°C-25°C or 68°F-77°F). Protect from moisture.
Dosage should be determined by your doctor based on your individual needs and response to treatment.
Typically started at a lower dose and gradually increased as tolerated.
Take with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) – especially if combined with other diabetes medications or if dose is too high
Lactic acidosis (a rare but serious complication, more likely in patients with kidney disease)

Allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling)
Limit alcohol consumption as it can increase the risk of lactic acidosis and hypoglycemia.
May cause dizziness or hypoglycemia, which can impair ability to drive or operate machinery.
Generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Discuss with your doctor.
Not approved for use in children.
Dosage adjustment is often necessary for patients with kidney impairment. Lactic acidosis risk is increased.
Caution is advised in patients with liver disease.
